A bus driver can now add “hero” to his resume thanks to his heartfelt ability to coax a suicidal woman on the brink of jumping off a bridge to come back to safety.
Surveillance video from inside the bus shows the moment when driver Damone Hudson, who was crossing the Main Street Bridge above the Great Miami River in Dayton, Ohio, noticed a woman on the wrong side of the guard rail.
“Hey Miss, why don’t you come back over on the other side of the rail?” he calls out from the bus, but the woman remains stoically facing the water while clutching onto a backpack.
When she doesn’t respond, Hudson puts the bus in park and starts walking toward the woman, asking her once again to get on the other side of the rail. He is able to hold her attention until police arrive.
Now, Hudson’s bosses are falling over each other to sing his praises, calling him one of the Rapid Transit Authority’s best assets and promising bright things in his future.
As for Hudson, he merely wishes that whatever darkness brought the woman so close to suicide will soon disappear.
